With Digital Radio expanding, reaching broader markets and delivering more complex programming, there is an increasing requirement for stations and Radio Groups to fully control their portion of the ensemble – their Capacity units (CU). RadioScape’s Distributed Management (DM) delivers that ability to each station or group

This capability is delivered from a simple, standard 1H fusion HWP, located anywhere on the contribution network architecture. DM imparts the ability for a single station or group ("Cohort") of stations to fully manage their allocated portion of an ensemble - measured in Capacity units "CU".

Hence, a 128 kbps (JS) station of 96 CU, could re configure itself to deliver a 96 kbps (JS) service of 72 CU with 32 kbps (24 CU) allocated to Data Services - Slide Show for instance, to augment a live concert.

Such reconfigurations are not limited to a single Radio Station, or "service", but where a Group of Radio Stations is operating on an ensemble, the Cohort can act in unison to re configure all of the stations in the group, to deliver additional audio stations and data services.

These changes can be made in a seamless fashion, as often as required by the station or cohort. They have no effect on the remaining services on the ensemble, and can not be made by the main, central Broadcast Manager at the Multiplex.

An ensemble can have a mixture of centrally managed stations or services and those under Distributed Management, with DM being applied to a single service, or groups of stations in a "Cohort".

Members of a Cohort do not have to be co-located, but can be spread around a wide area, connected by a suitable WAN with the DM unit being located anywhere on that network.

As can be seen from the two examples here, the content of an ensemble can be changed to deliver a much wider choice of stations and services, all under the control of the Cohort or individual radio station.

The functionality that DM offers greatly enhances the ability of a service provider to deliver flexibility in programming at a fraction of the cost and with greatly reduced complexity that conventional service multiplexing has traditionally offered. It can include in an initial build or seamlessly added to existing Ensembles with no affect on the integrity of the services on the multiplex.

DM ensures that the Capacity Units of your Station of Cohort are totally under your control and that your DAB services are managed, structured and re configured for as long and as often as is required, but under your local control.
